I had the pleasure of touring The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges recently.
You can visit their website here.
Here is an excerpt from the main page of their website:
"The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges is the only facility of its kind in the region, dedicated to providing a wide range of rehabilitative and recreational activities for persons with physical challenges.Since 1957, The Center has enabled thousands of people with disabilities to increase their physical capabilities, learn new skills and celebrate their triumphs. And, it has remained true to its mission: providing opportunities for persons with physical disabilities to enhance the quality of their lives."
I was so excited to see all that The Center has to offer those who are physically challenged.
There are many activities to choose from at The Center. Sports, crafts, exercise, games, movies and on and on.
Here's my fave lil man posin' it up for me....
The Tulsa Cerebral Palsy Association was hosting the open house I attended at The Center.
Here is the craft room. This place was my dream. I mean seriously, I wanted to cry. It was so wonderful. There was every kind of activity in there from wood, to metal, painting, paper crafts, and clay. You name it, they have it! I didn't want to leave, but they made me.
Look at ALL the paint! They had EVERY COLOR!
It looks like a Hobby Lobby or Michael's shelf!
I wanted to move into this room and live there.
But again, they wouldn't let me :(
This lil lady could not have been cuter.....
....she looks like she's up to something, doesn't she?!
The clay.
This was the biggest clay "sculpture" I had ever seen. It was SO TALL and such a piece of artwork!
There was a lot of time, effort and talent that went into this baby.....it's supposed to be pizza's and all kinds of food....made out of clay!
If I remember correctly, these were ceramic.....so great!!!
Did I mention metal sculpture??
And seriously, HOW FUN would it be to pimp out this big ol' fish/shark/marlin creature?!?
I love it!
There was so much talent that had left its mark on this room.....
This is all nails.....
And guess who, posin' in front of the paper mache` doggies in the window....
This pic of Sean was taken AFTER I had toured the art room....because they made me leave.
The exercise room is part gym, part physical therapy.....so much is offered at The Center.
My fave lil guy is everywhere! ha!
In the exercise room, there are wheelchair friendly weight machines....and the equipment is spread out so that a wheelchair can fit comfortably between them.
This pic cracks me up because he walked up the steps and immediately turned around and looked at me....
He knew I would have my camera ready to snap away!
Until next time, peace out!
