Holla!
We did Race for the Cure and we rocked it!
All lined up, ready to start!!
Me & Gen, pre-race
Gen and her sister, Sara, pre-race
We were all in the groove, feeling good, the weather was a little crisp, but it was HUMID.
That was my main complaint was the humidity, it was 95%, no thank you.
Our running group has been doing run three minutes, walk one minute,
so that was our plan going into the race.
Our strategy of 3:1 run/walk worked perfect. Myself, Genevieve and her sister, Sara, all stuck to this plan.
I was very pleased with our official finish time of 38:40.
That's about a 12 minute mile, which I think is AWESOME for not having done a 5K in a few years!
AND, considering this is Gen's first run/exercise anything after cancer/chemo/surgery,
she is a total and complete rock star!
Near the end of the course was a hill. It wasn't Pikes Peak, but it was enough to potentially kick our butts.
So, in order to avoid running up the hill, we ran two minutes longer on the interval leading up to the hill and walked our minute up the hill. That was Genevieve's idea....she's a smart cookie, hehe.
Along the race route, we saw all kinds of characters.
Along the race route, we saw all kinds of characters.
Pink fairy, butterfly, princess people......
(sorry for the blur, I was running while photographing)
Pirate people, arggghhhhh!!!
He happens to be my co-worker! Go John!
Behind us is the Sheriff Department's pink SUV.
Tulsa is one of the only cities with a pink vehicle represented in every department....
Police, Sheriff, Fire departments.
My friend Dee, from the gym.
This was post race, note, sweaty hair!...lookin' like a rag-a-muffin!
Team Boo Bee's!
Team Boo Bee crossing the finish line of the 1 mile fun run/walk, arm in arm!
Gen's survivor canvas that I painted for her.
I HAD to give it to her on race day!
Everyone had a great time.
Genevieve participated in all survivor activities and had a great day!
I was so proud to cross the finish line with her.....
her first race as a SURVIVOR!

That's just fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteNice job on the race and your time! Now you need to find a 5k that gives you a medal at the end. THOSE are awesome. I love me some medals. :-)
ReplyDeleteWay to go! Race for the Cure is coming to Charlotte this weekend. It's a big one.
